Peace Building and Conflict Resolution utilizing Traditional Dance Groups

This program, originally started in August 2006, is still ongoing.Peace building and conflict resolution is one of the key areas of concern in northern Uganda. Communities who are confined in the Internally Displaced Peoples' Camps benefit from training in peace building practices and learning and implementing non-violent means in the resolution of conflict.

Subsequently, PFAI created a training program and administered this to 7 group leaders of Traditional Dance Groups. Group Leaders then took their acquired knowledge and in turn went to teach their groups. Each group then began to compose songs, organize dramas as well as use their traditional dances to advocate peace and the use of traditional non-violent means of resolving conflict.

While there are ongoing challenges to any project, this continues to be a successful endeavour, encouraging the use of local tradition coupled with peace building and conflict resolution techniques.
